Yes, I had been a Software Manager but chose to be a Lead Engineer instead for 11 years now. That's on top my non programming job (but still IT) before.
I am proficient in Java and JavaScript but decided to focus on JavaScript. I dabble with Python from time to time but now I dabble with Rust instead. I know a lot of languages so I can always work on any of them but in terms of expertise, if you point a gun on me, I will say JavaScript. I am both frontend and backend with JavaScript.
Programming is not about talent but it's about diligence and analytical thinking. As the saying goes, if there's a will, one will do everything to achieve iit. If one doesn't want it, they will make up excuses.
