James 2:13 (KJV) For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

Proper judgment demands fairness, but not at the expense of mercy. When judged by God’s righteous standards, all of us are deserving of the maximum penalty. Yet, God shows us mercy. And He calls us to bear testimony to the mercy we have been given, by being merciful to others. For it is mercy that led Jesus to the injustice of the cross, so that mercy could prevail over justice.

Lord, You are holy, righteous, and just. I do not deserve to be found blameless in Your sight, yet in Your mercy, You have forgiven me and pardoned my sin. Help me to never forget Your mercy, so that I may share Your mercy with others and Your grace may be revealed in my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
