One of the most highly anticipated models Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) will be launching later this year is the all-new Land Cruiser 300-series. It seems some of those units have already been delivered to dealerships in Metro Manila. Thanks to our friends who shared these photos, we have our first look at the local-spec Land Cruiser 300.
Based on the exterior photo, the model seen here is likely the “entry-level” VX variant and not the new top-spec ZX. For starters, it doesn't have the extended bumper on the ZX and the wheels appear to be smaller than the 20-inch units supposedly fitted on the ZX. While our source didn't have a lot of photos of the exterior, we did have a better look inside the cabin.
The design and layout of the dashboard are similar to what you'd find in units sold abroad. Fans of the Land Cruiser will be glad to know that the biggest change would be the new touchscreen infotainment system. It's now a 12.3-inch unit that will supposedly come with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. No more localized head units that looked very out of place, which was previously fitted on the LC200. There are barely any blank buttons too, meaning TMP added most of the features available.
A photo of the new instrument cluster confirms that Toyota Safety Sense is now standard on the Land Cruiser. Meanwhile, third-row seats now seem to be power-assisted, similar to what you'd find on the Lexus LX and GX.
What's interesting are the speakers – they're JBL units. According to our source, the 14-speaker JBL sound system will be standard on the ZX, while the VX gets a standard 10-speaker system. It's possible Toyota changed things up and added to JBL speakers for the VX as well. Whatever the case, it still outclasses the 6-speaker package on the LC200.
A photo under the hood shows the new 3.3-liter twin-turbo diesel V6 engine. It's no longer a V8, but it packs more power than its predecessor, rated at 309 PS and 700 Nm torque. A new 10-speed automatic gearbox then sends power to all four wheels.
There's still no word whether local units will come with Toyota's new KDSS; we'll have to wait until the model officially debuts to find out. There's also no confirmation of the prices which is supposedly PHP 5,173,000 for the VX and PHP 5,642,000 for the ZX.
If you're only planning to order the new Land Cruiser now, expect to wait a bit before your unit arrives. There are already long queues at dealerships, and it's going to get longer once the model officially debuts. But with the LC300 now at dealerships, it's a strong indicator that the launch will be happening very soon. According to our source, it will supposedly go on sale in the first week of October 2021.
