PHILIPPINE CULTURE: "WHAT MAKES THE FILIPINO CULTURE UNIQUE"
Culture plays an important role in one's life. Not just by the fact that it drives and lead the people to their way of life but it is also the key to one's identity. The Filipino culture is an exuberant story that tells of the nation's journey through the centuries. Customs reflect the people's faith, oneness with others, affinity of nature, and celebration of life as well. The Filipino culture has varied influences from previous colonizations, deriving mainly from the culture of Spain and America. Despite of all these foreign influences, the old Asian Filipino culture has been retained and are clearly seen in the way of life, cultural beliefs in the Pilippines, Filipino customs and traditions. Each country is different from the rest of the world but what is it really about my country, the Philippines' that makes it stand out among others? For one thing, it's the Philippine culture.
The diversity of culture in the Philippines is what make it more unique. You can find many features in the diversity of Filipino culture in terms of architecture, religion, traditional clothing, visual arts, performing arts, literature, cinema and media, cuisine and many more. Filipinos have been describe as friendly, hospitable, happy and easy to be friend. In terms of Philippine cuisine, we' Filipinos are big eaters and love to eat rice. Some of the known delicious Filipino foods are adobo, sinigang, lechon, sisig, balut, isaw, sorbetes, and the famous "halo-halo". The Filipino culture and values are just among the good things that are appreciated by many people from across the world. In the Philippines, family is valued so much. Children love with their parents until they are married. Some other noteworthy and great Filipino values are "bayanihan" before, the Filipino man used to serenade "harana" a woman he was courting, Filipinos call their older siblings "ate" for older sisters and "kuya" for older brothers to show respect and we, Filipinos used to say "po" or "opo" when talking to elders as a sign of respect. Music, arts and literature also plays a vital role in the Philippine culture and art because Filipinos are very creative. When it comes to music, we use materials, usually raw, to create sound. This is just one of the many examples of indigenous practices in the Philippines.
Despite of all instances, there is always a dark side in a bright and shining moon. As time goes by, due to the developing culture that includes also the values and traits of us Filipinos, there are flat acts that were being intact in other words, there is a toxic side in some people mostly in this generation that has an impact in our cultural values, maybe it is depends on the race beliefs and values. There are many consequences may happen when this issue taken into extremes and we didn't pay attention on it. Toxic Filipino culture may come in the form of shared preconceptions over simple matters' for instance, how a milkteahouse chain is deemed a status symbol by many, or how skin color is used as an indicator of economic status, and English, the global lingua franca, as a litmus test of one's level of education?. Of course these aren't establish correlations, but many of us can't help but default to these modes of conditioned thinking more often than usual. In such instances, based on my experience, the most harm these common notions can do is when they are used to form opinions of people even before we have had the chance to know them. It
