Closed Duterte Is Turning Philippines Into A More Corrupt And Less Democratic State

The Philippines is getting a more corrupt and less democratic state under President Rodrigo Duterte. That's according to recent rankings published by international agencies.

The Philippines is the 113 least corrupt nation out of 180 countries, according to the 2019 Corruption Perceptions Index reported by Transparency International. That's 14 notches below the 2018 ranking and 18 down from 2015 before Duterte becomes President!

Meanwhile, the Philippines slid down one notch in the Economist Intelligence Unit's (EIU) Democracy Index for 2019, to 54th place.

That's on top of two notches it slid in 2018.

Rising corruption means that President Duterte's anti-corruption rhetoric that helped him grow in power was just that — rhetoric. Meanwhile, his death squads and attacks on media have undermined the country's democratic institutions, without helping the Philippines in the corruption front.

For my DDS 'friends" who cannot understand why it's bad that the rating went down:

i dont think so.

===

Philippines GDP = 330 Billion

Apple Net Worth = 1.3 Trillion

===

Maya ko na sagutin ang iba.
And yet college education and healthcare in US is hardly affordable to common 'mericans. Why???

Self-sufficient sa oil and yet they can't keep their asses away from middle east. Why???

Because U.S. politics is dominated by dumb Republicans who hate welfare. Americans get hysterical at a slight mention of "socialism." They ignorantly equate universal healthcare, free education, literally anything "free" with socialism and that socialism is the sibling of communism which are both evil.

Socialism is demonized in every American history textbook due to the strife and rivalry between the US and the Soviet Union in the Cold War.

The US is also a religious nation and believes that capitalism can only be compatible with their religious views. Socialism is closely associated with atheism thus is naturally at odds with American culture.

But the US government already has enough money for healthcare and free education. They don’t even need to increase taxes for that. They just spend it on military to hold more power over the world.

Having said that, US intervention in the Middle East has nothing to do at all with control of oil. If oil was the reason, Venezuela would have been a much more prolific target since it has more oil and weaker military. The US just wanted a regime change in Iraq because Saddam Hussein had grown too much of an indignation for the US whom it wanted to overthrow since the 1990s.

So no different to pinas then, where only oligarchs benefit from country's wealth.

"enough money for healthcare and free education" and yet tons of common 'mericans can't afford basic healthcare and education?

"US intervention in the Middle East has nothing to do at all with control of oil.". Saddam is long gone. If not for oil itself (or control of petrodollar), what they hell they are doing there? By the way, US overthrowing governments left, right and center is ok with you? What's the word again?? Jurisdiction and sanctity of states.

Venezuela is rich both in oil and in SANCTIONS courtesy of your bully Uncle Sam.

You seem to be drinking too much US propaganda kool-aid.

Considering the US has one of the highest standards of living in the world, no. The comparison is widely invalid.

Americans have almost double the disposable income of Europeans even after all social transfer including tax, healthcare, education & cost of living.

What is considered middle class in Europe, would be considered poor in the US. Just like what is considered middle class in China would be considered poor in Europe.

Also, it's not trueAmericans cannot afford healthcare. Socialists have successfully slander the cost of healthcare in america yet 60% of Americans are satisfied with the cost of their personal healthcare.

The US is second only to Germany when it comes to healthcare satisfaction.

"Americans are largely positive about the quality of the healthcare they receive: Three-quarters of employed Americans (75%) said the healthcare they received was "excellent" or "good" in Gallup's last survey on the issue, in November 2017. There is little difference between U.S. workers and the overall public, among whom 77% rate their personal healthcare as "excellent" or "good." Satisfaction on the cost of personal healthcare is mixed: Just over half of employed Americans (54%) say they are satisfied with the total cost for healthcare they pay, modestly lower than the 61% of overall Americans who say they are satisfied with their care costs."

... and 6th in the world when it comes to tertiary education. 45% of US adults have college degree.

The US still hasn't left Iraq because it's rehabilitating the country same as what they did when they occupied South Korea and Japan after WW2.

Rehabilitating iraq??? Just like what they did to vietnam and laos leaving millions of land mines which up to know are killing and maiming people. Or further destroying it?

Lately, the iraq parliament voted to kick your uncle sam out of their country, you know what??? trump said they won't. kapal muks talaga.

Not sure if you're a ρáíd bot as it appears that your thinking is getting clouded by the day.

Vietnam is one of the greatest American foreign policy disasters of all time. The US tried to stop the communist takeover in Vietnam but failed horribly so there was no US rehabilitation and reconstruction done in the country as Vietnam successfully fended off the full might of the US. Had the US succeeded, Vietnam could've been a more prosperous nation today that is on par with Thailand and its other big neighbors instead of being poor and stagnant for decades just like all other communist countries.

Countries the US occupied and successfully rehabilitated received billions of dollar of economic aid from the US and managed to transform into modern, technologically advanced nations today such as South Korea, Japan and most of Western Europe. Imagine if South Koreans resisted American help, they would have long been absorbed into the brutal, reppressive communist regime of Kim Il Sung with people dying in starvation and concentration camps instead of strutting the latest KPOP fashion and rocking the latest iPhones and Galaxy phones.

Iraqis should be thankful the US is giving them a huge favor. They could be next to South Korea.

Yup.. the Philippines is going to lose, not only billions of pesos but also military equipment, and intelligence (something that this government lacks obviously!)... Isis is rejoicing...

Pinas has been a US colony for ages after they bought us from the effing spaniards. You know, the Mock Battle of Manila Bay. All their shady dealings started then.
