Utilitarianism suggests that an act would be considered ethical if it maximizes benefit and reduce any harm. If Kevin uses utilitarian ethics, he should listen to his friend so that both wouldn’t be caught because if Tom is caught, he may lose his scholarship that may ruin his future.

Duty ethics suggest that an act would be considered ethical if it fulfils duty without worrying about the consequences. Thus, Kevin has the duty to call for help because he is not trained to help Tom. Besides, if the injury is serious Tom may not be able to continue his studies and it may cause serious injury. So, without worrying about the consequences of losing his scholarship, Kevin should focus on saving him.
