What is a RAT (remote access Trojan)?

A remote access Trojan (RAT) is a malware program that includes a back door for administrative control over the target computer. RATs are usually downloaded invisibly with a user-requested program -- such as a game -- or sent as an email attachment. Once the host system is compromised, the intruder may use it to distribute RATs to other vulnerable computers and establish a botnet.

Because a RAT enables administrative control, it makes it possible for the intruder to do just about anything on the targeted computer, including:

Monitoring user behavior through *********s or other spyware.
Accessing confidential information, such as credit card and social security numbers.
Activating a system's webcam and recording video.
Taking screenshots.
Distributing viruses and other malware.
Formatting drives.
Deleting, downloading or altering files and file systems.
The Back Orifice rootkit is one of the best known examples of a RAT. A häçker group known as the Cult of the Dead Cow created Back Orifice to expose the security deficiencies of Microsoft's Windows operating systems.

RATs can be difficult to detect because they usually don't show up in lists of running programs or tasks. The actions they perform can be similar to those of legitimate programs. Furthermore, an intruder will often manage the level of resource use so that a drop in performance doesn't alert the user that something's amiss.

To protect your system from RATs, follow the same procedures you use to prevent other malware infections: Keep antivirus software up to date and refrain from downloading programs or opening attachments that aren't from a trusted source. At the administrative level, it's always a good idea to block unused ports, turn off unused services and monitor outgoing traffic.

RAT also stands for remote administration tool.

For Android user eto ung pinakamatinding Rat gmit ang
AhMyth RAT.

There are more than 2 billion Android devices active each month, any of which can be häçked with the use of a remote administration tool, more commonly known as a RAT. AhMyth, one of these powerful tools, can help outsiders monitor a device's location, see SMS messages, take camera snapshots, and even record with the microphone without the user knowing.

Remote administration tools were first programs intended to provide technical support to remote computers by allowing an administrator to log in and control the device directly. However, häçkers quickly saw the potential of these tools and started using them for more nefarious deeds. Today, advanced RATs are used to remotely access and control a wide variety of devices, but today we'll focus on one of the world's most popular — Android.

AhMyth is a new, up-and-coming, open-source Android RAT, currently in the beta stages of development, which uses a simple GUI interface. While Android RATs aren't a new thing, what makes this one stand out from the crowd is the simple and easy-to-understand graphical user interface. Additionally, AhMyth is multi-platform, available on Linux, Windows, and macOS.

So guys hope nakadagdag ako ng info s inyo..Just beware and keep ure AVs updated..

Ano yung lesson mo? Kwento mo naman.. Hahaha
My lesson: Be careful of installing apps.

I was actually using a computer and I didn't know na virus siya since it happened when I was just 13.
And I realized na kasalanan ko pala yun haha

Sensya medyo malabo ang story ko kasi medyo limot ko na ang mga nangyari.
So... yeah.
Think twice before you click something on your browser.

TIA

bro RAT is remote access tool not trojan, baka ibig mong sabhn may lamang trojan, but its not a trojan, its a tool contains malicious files--iba pala sinasabi ko backdoor pala sinasabi mo mistake
