The first group of Ukrainian soldiers taking part in a new major training program has arrived in the UK, the press service of the British government reported on July 9. As part of the program, up to 10,000 Ukrainians will be trained in British military camps in the coming 120 days.

The specified number of trainees does not include groups of Ukrainian artillery men who have already been trained in the UK for quite a long time.

Defence Secretary Ben Wallace announced, “Using the world-class expertise of the British army we will help Ukraine to rebuild its forces and scale up its resistance as they defend their country’s sovereignty and their right to choose their own future.”
The training course is based on the basic course of the British Army and includes handling weapons, first aid in combat, covert movement, camouflage, navigation, basic tactics, laws of war, etc.

About 1,050 British troops are being sent to launch the program, which will take place at four undisclosed MoD sites across the north-west, south-west and south-east of the UK. Each course will last several weeks and will be reportedly conducted by military personnel from the 11th Security Forces Assistance Brigade.

The Ukrainians are largely volunteers without any military training, which strongly suggests growing concern over the rate of losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The ambitious program is being dubbed the next phase in London’s support to Ukraine. Britain’s efforts escalates the proxy war nature of the conflict in Ukraine.
