A statistical report about the current status of crime rate in the Philippines:

- According to the Philippine National Police (PNP), the country's crime rate has dropped by 19.49 percent from January to Feb. 25, 2023 as compared to the same period in 2022¹. This is despite the spate of attacks against local officials this month, which the PNP chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. said are isolated cases with different motives¹.

- The PNP also reported that the crime rate has dropped by 10.14 percent in the first six months of 2023 as compared to the same period in 2022³. The PNP attributed this decline to the strict implementation of quarantine protocols, community policing, and anti-crime operations³.

- The PNP recorded a total of 4,944 criminal incidents from January to Feb. 25, 2023, down from 6,141 in the same period in 2022¹. The PNP also recorded a total of 2,467 focus crimes (crimes against persons and property) in 2022, down from 3,134 in 2021². Focus crimes include murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, and car theft².

- The PNP also recorded a total of 1,477 non-index crimes (special laws and other crimes) as of January 2023, down from 1,607 in December 2022². Non-index crimes include violations of special laws such as îllégâl drugs, îllégâl ********, îllégâl logging, îllégâl fishing, cybercrime, and terrorism².

- The Philippines ranked among the countries with the highest incarceration rate in every hundred thousand inhabitants in 2022, with 221 prisoners per 100,000 population².

The country also ranked among the bottom five of the order and security index in the Asia-Pacific region in 2021, with a score of 0.55 out of 1². The order and security index measures how well a society ensures the security of persons and property.
