Free mobile Internet access will not be available with Psiphon anymore. As of the next software update, Psiphon developers will completely take away the ability to gain free Internet for users under Globe Telecom. They even posted a special message directed solely at users in the Philippines.

The message at the very top of the Psiphon home page reads:

Dear Users in The Philippines,

It has recently come to our attention that some of you may be bypassing your cell phone carrier’s billing systems when using Psiphon. As of next week, Psiphon will still be available for circumventing censorship to access sites and services that are blocked. However, you will no longer be able to bypass your cell phone carrier’s billing systems.

Thank you for using Psiphon.

Psiphon is an award-winning mobile app that allows users to circumvent roadblocks on the mobile Web with the intention of avoiding censorship. It was never meant to allow users to browse the Internet for free, but it did, and too many users couldn’t prevent themselves from sharing the news with others when they had a chance. So the exploit was quickly discovered by the higher-ups and will now be put to an end.

Update: One of our readers helpfully pointed out that the official Psiphon website, located at You do not have permission to view the full content of this post. Over on Twitter, local carrier Globe Telecom has already received reports from its users complaining about Psiphon. There are a number users posting under the hashtag#Psiphon complaining about the app and the fact that it allows others to get free mobile Internet access.

One user has described the exploit as “unfair for us who are still paying for unlisurf,” and requests that the app should be blocked to alleviate network congestion.

sabi mo nagkaroon ka ng "butas" at a certain time, tapos nawala (which means temporary, hindi sya butas bug kung temporary), tapos later nagawa mo dahil may ginamit ka combination of programs or nag browse ka of a total of 100 or 400 or 500mb, tapos nawala ulit or hindi mo sure kung tatagal

if a trick cannot be replicated over and over again, it is not a valid system, nagkataon lang kung baga, a real trick can be used by another person or re-used anytime

if you really want to figure out the details of how a freebrowse phenomenon occurs to a certain connection, i suggest you use a network monitoring software like "wireshark" para makita what happens during a freebrowse pheonomenon

one thing that you DID prove is that your computer/connection is susceptible to freebrowse, which means sooner or later, it will happen again
