Pagasa: LPA expected to dissipate within the next 24 hours

MANILA, Philippines — The low-pressure area (LPA) which was once Tropical Depression Amang is expected to dissipate within the next 24 hours, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Thursday.

Pagasa has also lifted all tropical cyclone wind signals.

“The remnant circulation of ‘Amang’ is forecast to track generally northwestward or west-northwestward towards Polillo Islands and northern mainland Quezon. This weather disturbance may dissipate in the next 24 hours,” said Pagasa in its 11:00 a.m. weather advisory.

The LPA, currently over the coastal waters of Polillo Islands, is moving west-northwestward at 10 kilometers per hour.

It is expected to trigger rain in Central Luzon, Metro Manila, and Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon), said state meteorologists.

“Under these conditions, isolated flashfloods and rain-induced landslides remains possible, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps and in localities that experienced considerable amounts of rainfall for the past several days,” said Pagasa.
