Madonna's third album, True Blue, is the record of consecration. Three years after her appearance on the American and international scene, the 28-year-old singer is already one of the unmissable icons of pop. True Blue is the first album on which Madonna wants to bring her co-production work.Accompanied by Patrick Léonard, she weaves a veritable succession of hits: "Papa don't preach", "La Isla Bonita", "Open Your Heart", "Love Makes the World Go Round". Languorous and catchy Latin rhythms ("La Isla Bonita"), a very sixties sound ("True Blue"), a touch of classic ballad with "Live to Tell", the album skilfully slips between styles to form a very seductive pop cocktail.
Less seductive than Like a ******, it expresses a strong sensuality, assertive although more subtle. More consensual, you might say. The compromise seemed to work: with 21 million records sold, the Madonna was its biggest worldwide success.
