Microsoft invested $150M in Apple in 1997 (You do not have permission to view the full content of this post. Log in or register now.). Apple was barely surviving. Jobs announced the investment during his infamous speech at the Macworld Boston.

One of the reason behind it is Microsoft was just about to commercialise Office for Mac, which ended up as a great source of income for Microsoft.




Maybe it was just a rumour but I heard that when Apple was struggling to survive in the 1990s, Bill Gates kept it alive as he wanted some competition around to keep Microsoft on its toes.

If true, how much stock did he purchase and at what price? I imagine Apple shares could have been bought then at a tiny fraction of their current value.
