Hello! When opening a large drawing file in AutoCAD, it is normal for the software to consume a significant amount of RAM due to the complexity and size of the file. In your case, a 258MB drawing file can be considered large, especially if it contains intricate details, multiple layers, high-resolution images, or extensive 3D elements.

The fact that it took almost 2 hours to load the drawing indicates that it is indeed a complex file that requires a substantial amount of system resources to process. AutoCAD needs to load and render all the components of the drawing, which can be resource-intensive.

Using AutoCAD 2016 or 2020 should not significantly affect the loading time, as both versions are capable of handling large drawing files. However, if you are experiencing slow performance, you may want to consider optimizing your system or the drawing file itself to improve loading times.

Here are some tips to potentially speed up the loading process:

1. Optimize the Drawing: Remove any unnecessary elements, purge unused layers, blocks, and styles, and simplify complex geometry to reduce the file size.

2. Increase System Resources: If possible, upgrade your system's RAM to provide more memory for AutoCAD to use when loading large files.

3. Close Other Applications: Close any unnecessary applications running in the background to free up system resources for AutoCAD.

4. Use SSD: Consider using a Solid State Drive (SSD) for faster read/write speeds, which can help improve overall performance when working with large files.

If the issue persists, you may want to reach out to Autodesk support for further assistance or consider breaking down the drawing into smaller components for better performance.
