Kyushu University made a Digital Specimen of various preserved specimens which are now available in the internet. From insects to fish and others, more than 700 pictures taken from various angles made form of a 3D specimen.

The Digital specimens can be viewed in all angles and can be zoomed in and out. A model of a poisonous fish called「ミノカサゴ」(lionfish) can be seen with red and black patterns in their large fins. If you also enlarge a「カブトムシ」(rhinoceros beetle), you can see the thin hairs growing from its body.

Compared to digital specimens, preserved specimens are usually hard to find in museums. Their colors likewise change as time pass by. Digital specimens do not have these issues and as such are better considered for education purposes.
