WITNESSES OF TRUTH
—Arcanum Levi
We'll never indeed be able to distinguish between 'right' and 'wrong' actions. Every human act is subjective; that's why we cannot judge a person's decision from our perspective. While browsing different social media platforms, a few questions and ideas came to my mind after watching the 8-minute film entitled "Two & Two," which took place in a small classroom.
The story begins when the teacher starts writing "2 + 2 = 5" on the chalkboard to introduce that idea. He reinforces his argument with all of his students. When one student objects to that concept and suggests that 'two plus two equals four' rather than 'five,' he becomes enraged and tells them that they cannot speak. The teacher tried to silence the student, but it kept saying that the proposed idea was false. He then left the classroom and returned with three senior students.
The teacher asked their answer regarding that mathematical equation, and the three answered that it is absolutely 'five.' Furthermore, the one rebellious student was still not convinced. The student asked to come to the front. They have a chance to write the answer for the '2+2=?' equation again. The teacher also stated that it was his last chance to answer appropriately and follow. The three senior students pointed their arms at the boy against the board as if they were holding an imaginary *****. The student thinks for a while and writes "4" a few seconds later, and there are gunshots heard in the classroom, blood splatters across the blackboard. We could see the body of the student lifelessly lying on the ground. The rest of the students were horrified, scared, and quiet.
The three senior students carried the dead body out of the classroom, and the teacher continued his lesson. The teacher again ordered the students to write "2 + 2 = 5" in their notebooks. However, at the end of the story, another student is sitting behind the class—erasing the wrong proposed answer and silently replaced it with "4".
Now, if I would ask you, who has the best and proper response? And who among them did the wrong thing?
1. The so-called rebellious student who died for believing in the truth.
2. The majority of the students believed lies for their own lives.
3. The silent student is sitting behind the class, who remained silent for his safety. How would you judge this situation according to your principle?
