"When you connect a 1080p monitor to your laptop, the software outputs the video to the new monitor. It is not that your laptop monitor will now give output to the new monitor.
A laptop monitor and the 1080p monitor are just two different monitors for your CPU and you can decide which monitor to use. If you choose the 1080p monitor, the software, for example windows would use a 1080p resolution and you will get a better picture. Your laptop monitor doesn't affect the performance."
