Closed 5G on my iPhone X?

I’m a little confused. I’m reading that the iPhone 12 is the cost iPhone 12 to support 5G, however from time to time, my iPhone X displays “5G” where my signal strength and battery display are. What is the difference? Not really 5G? Showing 5G available... but not capable of using?

philippines is not fully 5g ready just like the esim
