My galaxy s5 mini just keeps displaying the message not registered on network. How do i remedy this?

I'm in my 50s recently divorced and starting life again. Always been interested in tech etc but been unable to pursue this due to family life. Now is the right time. Will ask a lot of questions as I'm not tech savvy so bare with me please.
