What is the purpose of this thread?

How to choose the right typeface for your project?

Selecting an appropriate typeface or family is a key aspect of a design project. The best starting point is to confirm the requirements of your client and the needs of the audience. Making the time to explore appropriate font options—whether it takes a few minutes or most of a day—is a smart investment. It will pave the way for an effective design solution and save time in the long run.

Futura Now Headline Regular • Calluna Regular & Italic
Here are key factors to consider when searching for an appropriate typeface:
  • Demographics – Knowing your intended audience, including their age range and particular interests
  • Legibility – Using a typeface that is clear and readable
  • Copy length – Selecting a specific font of a type family that is intended for headlines, body texts, and displays
  • Serif versus sans – Combining a classic-looking family that harmonizes with a modern one, like in the image above
  • Font family size – Just like copy length, determining a large family needed to meet all of your typographic needs (font weights, styles, etc.) for a project

Conclusion

The primary way to choosing a typeface is to do your homework first, so you can narrow down your choices to those that meet the needs of the job and will express your client’s or project’s message most effectively.
