'There is no negotiation when it comes to our sovereignty. ' - President Joko Widodo

Meanwhile in the Philippines:

'If we go to war...I would lose all my soldiers just as they are leaving for the war. It will be a massacre. We don’t have the capacity to fight them.' - Duterte

You are right. We have no capacity to fight them. But we seem to be forgetting the fact that asserting your sovereignty on a territory does not equate to going to war. Indonesia did so in the past few days without going to war. Even President Widodo visited Natuna Island personally. Meanwhile, our President backed out from visiting the disputed Spratlys after boasting to ride a jet ski and plant the Philippine flag during the 2016 elections

We do not need to go to war to defend our nation. Indonesia did so successfully. We are not alone as there are other countries asserting their rights over the disputed waters, not to mention allies inside and outside South East Asia. When will we realize this? When will those in power realize this? When another nation has already taken over the Philippines? Even Indonesia cited and used the Hague ruling, in which Philippines won. Meanwhile, we did not. Instead, we deemed it as 'useless' just because another nation does not recognize it.

Being friendly with other nations does not mean letting them step on us. It does not mean allowing them to treat us like dirt. It means being treated as equals. But when will we be seen as equals when those in power always bow down to the demands of foreign officials? Always afraid to speak out and defend its nation, unlike what President Widodo did?

Mas matapang Lang siguro si Pres Joko Widodo hehe
Oo nga eh. Ganito sana mangyayari kung siguro pinanindigan natin yung Hague ruling at nakipagtulungan tayo sa ibang bansa.
ganun talaga... pabango ng pangalan sa kampanya para iboto... once a politician... always a politician... :ROFLMAO:

The movement of the Chinese coast guard ships came as Jakarta dispàtched four more warships to the Natunas on Monday, in addition to three warships and two aircraft deployed there last week.

Apart from the military ships, about 120 fishermen from the northern coast of Java island were being sent to the Natunas to strengthen the Indonesian presence in the region, according to Mahfud MD, Indonesia’s coordinating minister for political, legal and security affairs.

We have allies. We have the Hague ruling to support us. Yet we didn't use any of them. Instead of using the law and the allies we have, the President chose to be a lapdog to China, constantly afraid to act. As I said, asserting your sovereignty on a territory does not equate to going to war. Nor is it always necessary for a show of military strength. Indonesia did not just use its military, it used diplomatic means.

And binasa mo ba talaga ang balita? "China adopts a military strategy of active defense which adheres to the principle of defense, self-defense and post-strike response. Meaning we You do not have permission to view the full content of this post. Log in or register now.," Zhao said in July 2019. So, what's the point of being afraid? Hindi naman aatakihin ang China. Hindi naman inatake ng Indonesia ang Chinese vessels, they are only patrolling in their territory, so I don't see why you always pull out the 'hindi natin kaya ang China sa giyera' card. Lumang tugtugin, lumang palusot. Wala bang bago diyan?

Sino ngayon ang nakakatawa? Walang binayad sa akin. Ikaw mukhang binayaran kasi kahit anong sabihin mo, lumalabas na ang tunay na katangian ng gobyerno natin: all bark but no bite.

Have a nice day.

PHC-Noob_Saibo, you are right bosing to feel this way. That's a common perception we learned based from our past, the same as other countries who experienced the same type of coercion from invasive nations."There is no negotiation when it comes to our sovereignty" isn't just a simple phrase to work around on any government perspective, when a dispute is against a far more powerful entity or may even be the same with an equally matched one. Let's not forget, this also a phrase China maybe using. Mere words or speeches, appeals, complaints, rallies, etc. even in international levels won't be enough. World affairs in modern days go thru the process of "negotiation" whether we like it or not. that's how it work, especially for a 3rd world country like us. Showing force by military means is "for show" unless you are really up for real combat to prove your point. So, it's just a strategy to send a sign to the enemy that we don't like the intrusion - on our side and their side. In Asia, a real war would less likely happen, only rifts and scattered confrontations because there are other larger elements that will stop them them from doing so - a combination of superpowers, allies, the UN and other organizations who deal with world affairs.
Though we won our claims (based on UNCLOS) thru The Hague Tribunal (Permanent court Arbitration) court last 2016, yet China still insisted on their historical rights (nine-dotted line) because they believe it is theirs. The PCA only handles disputes more like the same as UNCLOS, and they can't enforce a country to follow its ruling.
China will not risk in going to war (so as we), as the consequences will be far bigger even if they beat us if it happens. At this moment, they've been doing what they want for decades (constructing artificial islands, securing their interests, etc...) even if neighboring Asian countries are complaining. So why risk a war, they don't need. This is the sad part. Thus, our quarrel with China's and our interest is a neverending battle. We may need "third parties" to deal with this if our government can't do anything on their own. With regards to our President's actions, there is a bad side and good side in it. I don't hate him even if he's foul mouthing often - it's just him. He has to filter his mouth sometimes (think before talking), and collaborate with our delegation (from the Office of the Solicitor General and company) fighting for our rights and claims for years and not set them aside, and use his power to deal with China personally on our behalf. We need to hope that a peaceful solution will happen soon. We're not the only ones fighting with China on the South China Sea issue here.

Saibot's right. War isn't the only way to maintain national sovereignty. Lots of countries use other means to defend their territory and extend their influence. I just saw a news article that the MSS häçker group APT40 is using front companies like Hainan Xiandun to recruit people for them.
