If you thought the You do not have permission to view the full content of this post. Log in or register now. (which is for sale by the way) was a crazy build, then you should check out this ongoing Mitsubishi Mirage project from Puerto Rico. The owner seems to find the 1.2-liter three-cylinder mill in the Mirage a bit lacking for his needs. So he decided to drop the fuel-efficient engine and fit a large, more powerful unit – a V6.

The owner, Carlos Soto, sourced the engine from the Mitsubishi family. It's a 3.8-liter 6G75 engine, previously used in the Eclipse, Galant, and Montero Sport in other markets. Depending on the application, it can produce around 218 PS to 279 PS and up to 393 Nm torque. In comparison, the 1.2-liter mill outputs 78 PS and 100 Nm torque.

Based on the photos, the V6-swap appears to be a work in progress. The V6 engine somehow seems to fit in the engine bay, but we suspect there will be some cutting needed. By the looks of it, the firewall was not cut, but the front impact beam has been removed to make way for the new powerplant. There doesn't seem to be enough space for a radiator either. The owner will either have to relocate it at the rear or somehow have to find a space somewhere in the engine bay.

Getting the engine to sit properly under the hood is one part, it's another to get it running altogether. The owner will have to do a lot of custom fabrication work and wiring to get the V6 Mirage running properly. He will also have to upgrade the rest of the drivetrain to match the rest of the power. It won't be an easy task, but it will be unique once complete.

The question now is this: Are any Mirage owners in the Philippines willing to do the same engine swap locally?

Things to reconsider:
Make it AWD (ALL WHEEL DRIVE).
Install a turbo.
Then call it MIRAGE EVOLUTION. :)
