A beginner’s guide to Ragnarok Origin: All you need to know!

Intro

The official legacy of RO finally known as ‘Ragnarok Origin Global’ finally launched on 6th April 2023 in PC & mobile! It is time to join players across the world and enjoy this epic adventure together in Midgard. Which server are you guys on? Before that, let us walk you through the what’s and how’s on the world of ROO.

Terminology

Aside from a variety of languages being used to communicate with other players, it’s quite easy to get lost since a lot of players use acronyms. Some of the most common acronyms used in Ragnarok Origin are the following:
  • LFG – Looking for guild (e.g. lfg competitive guild, lfg casual guild). This means you’re looking to join a specific type of guild.
  • LFP – Looking for party (e.g. lfp sage memory 2, lfp angeling). This means you’re looking to join a party that’s already been created by another player.
  • LFM – Looking for members (e.g. lfm sage memory 2, lfm english-speakers for casual guild). This is used by a party leader to recruit players into their party for a variety of reasons–be it to do a daily quest, kill an MVP, or do Helheim. This can also be used by a guild leader or any guild member who has the ability to invite members into their guild.
  • -1 to -4. This refers to the number of people the party still needs (e.g. LFM angeling -2, which means that there are two slots left to be filled).
  • FS – Full Support Priest. This is usually used in conjunction with the previous acronym (e.g. lfm angeling -2 FS).
  • DPS – Damage Per Second. Often used in many MMO games, it refers to any job that specializes in dealing melee damage such as an Agility-type Knight, an Assassin, or a Hunter. The faster the DPS, the better.
  • Wiz – Wizard
  • BS – Blacksmith
  • OH – Orc Hero (e.g. lfm oh). This refers to an MVP found in Orc Village.
  • OL – Orc Lord (e.g. lfp ol). This refers to another MVP found in Orc Village
  • HHH – Helheim Hard Mode (e.g. lfp hhh)
  • MR – Monster Research. This is a game feature that revolves around the Monster Glossary, one of the books you can find by clicking on the Guide icon on your main screen. If someone says “LFM MR Pront South”, it means that they’re looking for party members who want to auto-battle with all the monsters found in the Prontera South Gate map to earn Monster Research Points.

Picking the right class

image-9.png
In a nutshell, everyone starts off as a regular adventurer class, which has only a few basic skills and exists essentially to teach you how to get started. However, once players reach level 10 during the tutorial, they will be able to choose their first class transition, which will be the first major decision in your character’s progression, considering how diverse the classes are in this game. Without getting into too much detail, since we’ve already explained that in our class guide, here’s a quick rundown of each class progression, as well as their basic role:
  • Swordsman > Knight > Lord Knight (Tank, DPS)
  • Acolyte > Priest > High Priest (Healer)
  • Mage > Wizard > High Wizard (DPS)
  • Thief > Assassin > Assassin Cross (DPS)
  • Merchant > Blacksmith > Whitesmith (DPS, Trader)
  • Archer > Hunter > Sniper (DPS)
Your class choice will obviously depend on your preferred play style. However, here are our personal recommendations for class choices:
  • Swordsman and Archer: Tank and DPS, respectively. Ideal for solo play.
  • Mage and Thief: Strong DPS but more complex than the previous two.
  • Merchant: Unique class that’s ideal for making money.
  • Acolyte: The dedicated healer of the bunch. Highly sought after for group content.

Stat Spreading

image-8.png
Every time you level up, you will receive attribute points that you can invest to raise your character’s stats. These stats, in turn, govern how well your character performs in combat. However, not all classes require every stat, and in some cases, you might find that it’s best to stick to no more than three stats, depending on the class and the role you wish to perform. For instance, a Swordsman can be built as a tank or a DPS. To achieve the former, you simply need to sink most of your points into VIT to make them basically unkillable. On the other hand, by sinking points into STR, DEX, and AGI, a Swordsman can become a decent DPS class. Luckily, if you think you’ve made a mistake by leveling the wrong stats early on, you can always reset your attributes by using a Reset Stone. You get three of these items for free early on, though you’ll need to pay for it using Catnip if you wish to reset your stats again later on. Luckily, you really don’t need to respec most classes—the only cases where you really need to do this is either if you made a mistake, or you wish to switch roles such as in the Swordsman example we mentioned above. To further illustrate the importance of stats, here’s a brief rundown of the most important aspects that each of these parameters can affect:
  • STR: Increases damage of melee weapons and maximum inventory weight.
  • AGI: Increases attack speed and FLEE.
  • VIT: Increases max HP, defenses, and HP regen.
  • INT: Increases magic attack, max SP, and SP regen.
  • DEX: Increases damage of ranged weapons, hit chance, and casting speed.
  • LUK: Increases crit rate and crit defense.

Leveling Guide

image-7.png
Most players aim to reach the highest possible level in MMOs like Ragnarok Origin. And because the game has just launched, leveling up can be a little confusing, especially for those who came from Ragnarok Online. In the original PC game, everyone’s used to grinding for hours on end, or doing turn-in quests like Eden Group’s Bounty Boards or Gramps to increase their level. In Ragnarok Origin, however, monster-grinding isn’t as efficient and shouldn’t be your sole source of EXP. What works for me and many others is this routine:
  • First is AFK Grinding. Set up your character to grind until you’ve used up all your Combat Time and is fatigued. You can do this while taking your lunch break in school or at work, or even earlier–while you’re getting ready before you leave home each day. Don’t worry about leaving your character grinding for hours, since even though you’re no longer gaining EXP and loot items, every monster you defeat still increases your Monster Research Progress, so it’s not at all wasted!
  • Second, once you get home, do the Daily Quests. You earn EXP doing Daily Quests even if you’re already Fatigued! I recommend doing 30 minutes of Fountain Dance worth 40 Commission Tickets whenever it’s available, so you can leave your character on while you’re making dinner, doing your homework, or resting after an exhausting day. Afterwards, do Misty Forest or Anthem Trial with a friend, or choose any Daily Quest that you like most. I personally like Road View as well. Take note that some daily quests such as Demon Treasure and Cat Hand Caravan don’t give EXP rewards (and don’t take your Commission Tickets either), so make sure to check the Rewards before you start a Daily Quest. If you chose the wrong daily quest and found it too hard, don’t worry–you’ll get your Commission Tickets if you fail the quest. If you changed your mind, you can always abandon a quest, by tapping on your Quest Window and choosing Abandon.
  • The third and final step in this daily routine is Questing. This means everything from Story Quest, to Side Quests, and Adventure Quests. These give EXP even if you’re fatigued. If you don’t have much time, you can just do one story, side, or adventure quest each day.

Hunting MVP

This is one of the most important parts of Ragnarok Origin as it’s a great way of scoring rare items. MVPs and Minis are, in essence, boss enemies that spawn in the world and that, upon defeating them, grant some of the rarest and most powerful items in the game. Due to their difficulty, MVPs require a party in order to hunt. However, this is not the only reason why a group is necessary; the main reason is because loot and drops are distributed according to various factors such as who gave the enemy the first hit, who dealt the most damage, and how gave the last hit. In this sense, to be safe, it’s much better to form a group beforehand and collaborate with other players to take the monster down. Mnis are very much the same, though they’re not as strong as MVPs, and can sometimes be soloed by the stronger players. Nevertheless, they also give interesting and important items, so they’re always worth hunting. It’s worth pointing out here that you can use Bloody Branch items to spawn Minis, in case you don’t want to wait for them to spawn. Keep in mind that players are limited to only 5 Minis and MVPs per day. Every kill after the limit will not grant any items or loot to the participants. Also, you can always check the spawn zones and timers for all MVPs through the event menu.

To level up faster, and become the strongest adventurer, you can use Nyan Berry.

image-6.png

Nyan berry is the in-game currency for Ragnarok Origin. You can use Nyan Berry to buy Discounted Packs in RO Shop. In this ‘Discounted Packs’, it sells RO Commemorative Gift Box and refinement items. These refinement items are used to refine your equipment: weapon, armor, and accessories. Besides, Nyan Berry also can be used to buy ‘Appearances’. In the RO Shop, ‘Appearances’ section, you can buy cosmetics such as headgear, and costumes to help increase your stats. And yes, it’s most highly used in Gacha ‘Wishing’ during the event period to obtain limited time costumes, accessories, and exclusive event items.
  • Players can draw using nyan berry
  • Draw 1 = x120 nyan berry
  • Draw x10 = x1200 nyan berry
And to increase your level experience & growth character, you can purchase KAFRA VIP monthly for $7.99. To obtain this Nyan Berry, you can buy it in the RO Shop or you can use a trusted and reliable third-party payment channel.
