MADAM Auring — the flamboyant seer whose annual predictions became a staple every new year — died on Friday. She was 80 years old.

In a Facebook post, Madam Auring’s grandson, Simon Pecson, confirmed the news, accompanied by a group photo.

“#RestInPeace my Lola… Grabe ang pinagdaanan mo during your senior years pero you still worked hard for your family (us),” part of Pecson’s post read.
The family has yet to reveal the cause of death as of press time.

Born Aurea Sabalboro Erfelo in 1940, Madam Auring began her career in divinity in her humble neighborhood in Manila, where she began telling people’s fortunes.

She then gained popularity when she supposedly “predicted” the win of Spanish beauty queen Amparo Muñoz at the Miss Universe 1974, which was held in the country.

A year later, Madam Auring predicted that world boxing heavyweight icon Muhammad Ali would defeat Joe Frazier at the “Thrilla in Manila,” which contradicted boxing experts and even other seers.

It was said that the boxing legend dubbed her “Madam Auring” after she correctly predicted the outcome of his bout with Frazier.

Since then, Madam Auring became the go-to seer in local news, with her face and predictions appearing before the end of the current year or the start of a new one.

She would often dish out prophecies from her tarot cards or crystal ball and predict who would win or lose big in entertainment and politics.

Among her self-proclaimed predictions were the presidential win of Fidel Ramos over Miriam Defensor-Santiago, and the breakup of former president Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino 3rd and then-girlfriend Shalani Soledad.

But that was not the only role accorded to Madam Auring. She also starred in a string of movies — “Hinahanap-hanap Kita,” “I Will Survive” and “Manay Po 2” — and TV shows, including “Lovespell.” She even went on to become an endorser for different products.

Madam Auring also hogged the limelight with her fascinating and colorful love life, some with younger men. But the flamboyant seer that she was, many claim that Madam Auring was one good and doting matriarch to her family, whom she shielded away from the glitzy yet knotty world of entertainment.
