Definition of Philosophy

1. Etymological definition
Love of wisdom (derived from the Greek terms "philo" which means love, and "sophia" which means wisdom).
Before one loves, one must find the object of his love which involves the search of wisdom and the search for the ultimate causes of the realities of life. The searcher studies all things and probes deep into the essences of reality using human reason. When one finds wisdom, one makes it part of his life, practices and actualizes it. One who beholds wisdom becomes a lover of wisdom, a philosopher.

2. Technical definition
Science of beings in their ultimate causes and principles acquired by the aid of human reason alone.
Philosophy is based on knowledge and not on mere opinion, belief or theory. It covers all things which the human mind can APPREHEND, that is, ANYTHING that exist, will exist, can be thought of or is known. It is through reason that a thing is known and understood. Unlike other sciences which seek the immediate cause and principle of things, philosophy seeks the ULTIMATE or final cause and principle. Philosophy bases its knowledge solely on the reasoning power of the human mind, not on any authority.

3. Simple definition
A way of life.
