Perlas Pilipinas racked up its second
win in a row in the 2015 FIBA Asia
Women's Championship by routing Sri
Lanka, 65-45, Monday morning in
Wuhan, China.
Perlas Pilipinas used a huge second
quarter to break away from a 14-all tie
at the end of the first and take control
of the game, 36-20, by the halftime
break.
A bucket by Chovi Borja at the 8:02
mark of the second period gave Perlas
Pilipinas the lead for good, 19-18, and
sparked a 17-0 run that gave the team
a 34-18 lead with 1:06 remaining in
the second quarter.
Perlas wound up out-scoring Sri
Lanka, 22-6, in the second period.
Scoring slowed down for both teams in
the third quarter, and the Filipinas
only won the fourth, 19-16, but the
huge second quarter explosion proved
to be enough to seal the win.
Shelly Gupilan top-scored for Perlas
Pilipinas with 15 points on five-of-
nine shooting from beyond the arc,
while Camille Sambile added nine
points, nine rebounds, three s†éáls,
and two blocks.
Perlas Pilipinas now has a 2-1 record
in Group B after registering a
breakthrough win against North Korea
on Sunday.
