Obelus​

We all know what the division symbol (÷) is and what it looks like, but not many people call it by its proper name, which is Obelus. The word Obelus from ὀβελός (obelós), the Ancient Greek word for a sharpened stick, spit, or pointed pillar. This is also the root of the word obelisk. Besides the tradtional division sign, Obelus can also be used to describe the dagger mark, †, which is used to indicate dubious content or as a footnote marker. The division symbol, ÷, or Obelus was first used by the Swiss mathematician Johann Rahn in his book Teutsche Algebra in 1659.
