Misconception about torrent download

Brief history 🤔💭

"The CyberCrime Prevention Act of 2012 (Cybercrime Law) officially took effect in the Philippines. Filipinos can now be punished for buying bootlegs or downloading videos, music, and other copyrighted files.

The Intellectual Property Code and the Anti-Camcording Law were previously in place to combat piracy in the Philippines. In fact, in mid–2013, the Philippine government shut down the torrent site Kickass Torrents. However, the site is still present and uses a different domain."

😷
While the Virtual Private Network (VPN) would protect us against fraud and îllégâl activities online by making our connection private and secured, accordingly, VPN users should not use the server in violation of the Intellectual Property Code or the Piracy Act. Downloading movies via torrent while using a VPN server is one of the terms and conditions in availing of VPN services.

Again, piracy or îllégâl downloading of movies, among others, are crimes and punishable by law. VPN service providers, such as in this case, Azure, are mandated to ensure that their server/s should not be used in any îllégâl activities online. Otherwise, the said juridical entity might be criminally charged and punished under Philippine law.
