Marcos, Duterte proclaimed President, VP

IT'S official. The Philippines has a new president and vice president.

Congress proclaimed on Wednesday former senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. and Davao City Sara Duterte-Carpio winners in the May 9 presidential and vice presidential races.

Based on the final official tally, Marcos won the presidential race with 31,629,783 votes while Duterte-Carpio garnered 32,208,417 votes.

This, after the Joint Canvassing Committee finished counting the votes at past 3 p.m. in what has been described as the fastest canvassing of votes for president and vice president in the country's history.
