Lamborghini has shut down its production lines last month due to the continuous spread of the coronavirus, but that doesn't mean they can't do anything about it.

While the Italian supercar builder may not be making cars, some departments of their Sant’Agata plant are still up and running, and rather than making supercars, Lamborghini is now making Personal Protective Equipment (PPE’s) such as masks and protective shields.

The skilled craftsmen known for producing some of the finest interior works at Lamborghini are now producing nearly 1,000 masks a day. Meanwhile, Lamborghini’s carbon fiber production plant and their Research and Development department will soon be making medical shields. According to the Italian supercar builder, nearly they will be able to make 200 shields a day, all of which will be 3D printed.

The production of Lamborghini’s medical shield and mask have been approved and supported by the Emilia-Romagna Region, and is taking place in collaboration with the University of Bologna. Prior to their hospital delivery, the Department of Medical and Surgical Sciences will do validation testing to ensure the medical devices made by Lamborghini are up to standard.

“During this emergency, we feel the need to make a concrete contribution. The S. Orsola-Malpighi Hospital is an institution with which we have had a collaborative relationship for years, through both professional consultancy in promoting programs to protect our workers’ health, and in research projects. We will win this battle together by working in union, supporting those who are at the forefront of fighting this pandemic every day,” said Stefano Domenicali, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini.

With no certain end to the coronavirus pandemic, it is great to see even supercar manufacturers like Lamborghini doing what they can to help health workers and frontliners in their country. The company also lights up their headquarters with the colors of the Italian flag as a sign of support and unity to Italy.
