John 21:17 (KJV) He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

Before Jesus’ crucifixion, Peter had denied Jesus three times. And now, after the resurrection, Peter declares his love for Jesus three times. And Jesus’ response is simple. “Show me,” he says, “and feed my sheep.” Our love for Jesus ought to be evidenced in our actions, as it compels us to do the good work that he has called each of us to do.

I love You, Lord. Perhaps I don’t say it enough, with my word or my deeds. But as I meditate on Your love for me and my love for You, I want to do the things that please You. Show me how You’ve equipped me for Your kingdom’s work, and lead me to the people and places where You are calling me to carry out my tasks. In Jesus’ name, amen.
