This benefit is not a loan. Just like other SSS benefits for sickness, disability, maternity, retirement, funeral, and death, you don’t need to pay this back. In addition, you can apply for SSS unemployment benefits even with an outstanding SSS loan.

WHO ARE ELIGIBLE FOR SSS UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS?
To qualify for the SSS unemployment benefits program, you must meet the following criteria:

  1. Must not be over 60 years old at the time of unemployment
    • EXCEPTION: Mineworkers and racehorse jockeys must not be over 50 and 55 years old respectively
  2. ρáíd at least 36 months’ worth of monthly SSS contributions and 12 months have been ρáíd in the last 18 months prior to job loss.
  3. Did not receive SSS unemployment benefits within the last 3 years prior to the date of unemployment.
  4. Employment is terminated involuntarily due to:
    • Installation of labor-saving devices
    • Retrenchment or downsizing
    • Redundancy
    • Cessation of operation
    • Disease or illness, prohibiting you from performing job duties or compromising your co-employees’ health as per law
    • Economic downturn (job loss due to economic recession or depression)
    • Natural or man-made disasters/calamities
OR you have quit your job without notice to the employer due to reasons of:
  • Grave insult by your employer or his/her representative
  • Inhumane and unbreakable treatment by your employer or his/her representative
  • Commission of a crime or offense to your or immediate members of your family by your employer or his/her representative


WHO ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR SSS UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS?
You will not qualify for unemployment benefits if your employment was terminated due to reasons of:

  • Willing resignation from employment
  • Serious misconduct
  • Willful disobedience to lawful orders
  • Gross and habitual neglect of duties or gross inefficiency
  • Abandonment of job
  • Fraud
  • Disloyalty, dishonesty and other willful breaches of trust/loss of confidence with your employer
  • Commission of a crime or offense

HOW MUCH UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE WOULD I RECEIVE?
Should you be eligible for the benefit, you will be given an amount that is equal to twice the half amount of your average monthly salary credit, with a ceiling amount of ₱20,000.

WHAT ARE THE SSS UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS REQUIREMENTS?
  1. Original and photocopy of one (1) primary ID

    • SSS card
    • Voter’s ID Card
    • Driver’s License
    • NBI Clearance (Read: You do not have permission to view the full content of this post. Log in or register now.)
    • Postal Identity Card
    • Firearm Registration
    • License to Own and Possess Firearms
    • Permit to Carry Firearms Outside of Residence
    • Seafarer’s Identification & Record Book
    • Alien Certificate of Registration

  2. Certification of the nature and date of involuntary separation from DOLE
  3. Notice of Termination from Employer
  4. Affidavit of Termination of Employment


HOW TO APPLY FOR SSS UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS
The SSS is still working on an online filing system for the benefit of those who live in places that are still on ECQ. Should your area be under GCQ, with open SSS branches (in a limited capacity), you may call your local SSS branch to see if you can submit your requirements in person to file your claim. Take note that you must file for these benefits within one year from the date of unemployment for the claim to be valid.
