"The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas informs the public that folded banknotes, whether paper or polymer, can still be circulated and accepted for payment," nakasaad sa pahayag ng BSP.

"As such, retailers and banks should accept them for day-to-day payment transactions," dagdag pa ng BSP.

"The BSP issues this advisory to address concerns raised on social media regarding non-acceptance by some establishments of folded 1000-Piso polymer banknotes," ayon sa BSP.

"The handling guidelines were issued to raise public awareness on the proper use of polymer and paper banknotes to safeguard their integrity and prolong their lifespan," paliwanag ng BSP.

"If an individual is doubtful on the value and/or authenticity of a banknote, he or she is encouraged to go to any bank for assistance. The bank will then refer the banknote to the BSP for examination," patuloy ng BSP.

“One of the primary motivations for shifting to the polymer-based bill was that it is more durable than the paper bills," sabi ni Salceda sa sulat sa BSP.

"However, the lack of guidelines on what constitutes still-valid legal tender and which bills are damaged beyond being acceptable by business establishments has led to confusion in ordinary cash transactions," patuloy ng kongresista.

"One folded bill should be just as good as a bill not folded," giit niya.

"To resolve these concerns, may I request that the BSP issue guidelines on accepting polymer P1000 bills, and what remedial resources cash-holders can resort to, should their polymer bills no longer be acceptable to establishments. I understand that, with the paper bills at least, damaged bills could still be exchanged with banks and the BSP,” hiling ni Salceda.--FRJ, GMA News
