Under VP Leni’s leadership, OVP now ISO-certified
The Office of the Vice President has earned its certification from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).The OVP, under the leadership of Vice President Leni Robredo, passed the accreditation process for the first time, attaining its ISO 9001:2015 certification. Such accreditation is sought by government agencies, organizations, and top companies from various fields around the world, as it provides a standard that ensures quality of products and services.
This makes the office among the handful of national government agencies in the Philippines to get an organization-wide certification under the latest version of the ISO 9001 Standard, which applies to Quality Management Systems.
“This is an affirmation of all the hard work that everyone has been doing,” said VP Leni during an announcement this week. “But this is also a challenge for us, to address opportunities for improvement. We are committing to be faithful to complying to all these.”
The Vice President has repeatedly underscored that the said endeavor was aimed at streamlining processes and improving the various units under her office, in order to deliver quality service to the public. She likewise noted that aiming for the ISO certification was a way to unite the OVP and inculcate a sense of honor and commitment among its staff, a substantial number of whom are young public servants.
“I hope we will work on not only sustaining this, but improving even more,” she told her staff. “I hope each and every one here, especially the young members of our staff, will keep in mind his or her role in the bigger picture, that you will all see public service and politics with a different mindset: that it is both an honor and a privilege.”
Under VP Leni’s leadership, the OVP has since worked beyond ceremonial duties, crafting a flagship anti-poverty program called Angat Buhay, which reaches out to the farthest and smallest communities around the country, those affected by disasters, as well as to poor communities in Metro Manila. It addresses six key advocacy areas, including: hunger and food security, maternal and child healthcare, women empowerment, education, rural development, and housing.
Starting out as an endeavor made possible through partnerships with the private sector, the said program has been allocated its own share in the office’s annual budget.
From an initial 50 communities, the OVP is now assisting more than 170 communities around the country. Over the past year, it has helped 83,807 families under Angat Buhay, with P145-million worth of assistance through private partnerships. It has likewise contributed to relief operations for areas affected by calamities, and extends other forms of assistance like those for medical concerns.
