(JULY 8, 2019) – Mislatel consortium’s bid to be the third major telecommunications player in the Philippines will finally be cemented on Monday as the government is set to award its permit and radio frequencies.
President Rodrigo Duterte himself will award the consortium’s Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) in Malacañang after it completed the post-qualification requirements to clinch the franchise.
Included in the process were the formation of the official company courtesy of the Security Exchange Commission, securing required approvals from the Philippine Competition Commission and the National Economic and Development Authority, and posting a P25.7-billion performance bond.
Mislatel, the sole compliant bidder for the third telco franchise, was composed of Mindanao Islamic Telephone Co. (Mislatel), Udenna Corp., Chelsea Logistics and Infrastructure Holdings Corp., and China Telecom Corp. Ltd. The consortium is headed by Davao businessman Dennis Uy.
The entry of a third telco player is part of Duterte’s campaign promises in a bid to promote “genuine competition” in the industry and to improve telco services in the country.
